April 2002: Amsterdam, Netherlands
We left Munich on the overnight train and arrived in Amsterdam on Wednesday morning. It was a harrowing taxi ride to our hotel on the Herengracht, but it was all worth it. We got a room at the top of the central canal house--the exposed timber ceiling was great.

By this point in the trip, we were much more relaxed about getting to the sites. We headed for the Rijksmuseum, then took a canal taxi and a long walk though the city.
 |
| On Thursday, we headed straight for the Anne Frank House. After that, we climbed the bell tower of Westerkirk. The fog hadn't yet lifted, but we took this photo anyway. Later that day, we went to Keukenhof to see the tulips and such. |

Friday was pretty dreary, but we still hit a few sites, did some shopping, and strolled through the red light district. It gave me a whole new perspective on "window shopping." While we were out, we saw tiny cars like this one actually being driven around.
