April 2002: Paris, France
On Sunday, we visited the Pantheon, Notre Dame de Paris, and Sainte-Chapelle. To the left, Stuart poses in front of Notre Dame. Below, enjoy some of the chimeras and the view from the towers of this 12th century cathedral.
As you can see, Paris is a "low" city--the Eiffel Tower soars above the skyline.
The gardens behind Notre Dame were, of course, wonderful. We found an American tourist to take a photo us together.

The Sainte-Chapelle is a 13th century chapel located just blocks from Notre Dame. It has two storeys--the top was reserved for the king and the storage of the relics, while the lower level was open to the soldiers, servants, and courtiers in residence. The building is surrounded by the Palais de Justice, and the phenomenal stained glass on the upper level (below) was truly a surprise.
